a storm water management program plan (SWMPP) as a result of new
state regulations governing the discharge of storm water into
waters of the state. This program includes the entire city storm
water system, including 21 outfalls into two major receiving waters
– Muskegon Lake and Bear Lake. The goal of the program is
to improve lake water quality throughout the major metropolitan
Muskegon area.
Engineering
services associated with the new storm water program include:
- drafting
a new citywide storm water ordinance
-
public education
-
facilitating public involvement and participation
-
implementing an illicit discharge elimination program
(IDEP)
-
managing post construction storm water
-
controlling construction storm water runoff
-
encouraging pollution prevention and good housekeeping
for municipal operations
- updating
the city's web site to include references to important storm
water “best management practices” and local water
quality databases.
In
connection with these tasks, Williams & Works writes articles
for the city newsletter, trains city department of public works
staff, and will present the storm water management program to
the North Muskegon Public Schools high school ecology class.
