Foreman
Road and Gee Drive are major streets serving several neighborhoods,
three schools, and three industries in the City of Lowell.
The
failing pavement along Foreman Road and Gee Drive caused
hazardous driving conditions and excessive truck noise,
creating a nuisance for area residents. Street improvements
involved 3,600 feet of road reconstruction and the replacement
of an undersized watermain.
Completed
in 2004, the project resulted in a smoother road now able
to handle heavy truckloads. Construction was sequenced
to allow access to industries and to coordinate with the
schools’ summer break so as to minimize disruption
to student bussing.
An
MDOT Local Agency grant and city matching funds financed
the $518,000 road reconstruction project.
